Spring 1953. There are changes in the air at Fredenslund, as the county's new central school must be appointed. The hospital is in the running, but is in fierce competition with the far more conservative hospital Skt. Helene, where male nursing students are certainly not welcome. It is therefore up to the Headmistress and the students to convince the critically inclined county council chairman to choose Fredenslund over Skt. Helene. At the same time, the first-year students embark on a demanding process in the operating room, where the new chief surgeon has just started. Here they must learn to assist during surgery while still being pressured by tougher shifts.
